Review of DG Burger

I want to know why it took me so long to go to DG (Damn Good) Burger at The South Coast Plaza? Easily one of the best burgers and fries I have had in a long time. I took some friends there for lunch today and we were all impressed. I ordered the burger and added cheese and bacon to it. I ordered fries with the roasted garlic sour cream dipping sauce. There are several dipping sauces and you get one with your fries and the others cost extra. The fries, dare I say are good if not better than McDonald's. The fries are crisp and nicely salted, just the way I like them. The roasted garlic sour cream was not overpowering on garlic. It was a perfect compliment to the fries. Now the burger upon first glance looked small and I was afraid I wasn't going to be full but I was wrong. The burger is cooked medium well and was juicy and flavorful. The slaw and the sauce were great as well. It made the burger a bit on the messy side. The potato bun perfectly held the entire burger together. It didn't fall apart with all the sauce and the slaw dressing and just the juice coming off the burger. Definitely they lived up to it's name! It was a Damn Good burger! DG Burger is part of Charlie Palmer's near Bloomingdale's at South Coast Plaza. They are open from 1130am to 4pm.

Beach Pit BBQ is teaming up with Saddleback Church to raise money for victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. On March 28, all six Beach Pit BBQ restaurants will donate 50 percent of their sales to charities tied to the Japanese baseball team Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.

The team is located in Sendai, hardest hit by the tsunami. Saddleback Church has agreed to match what Beach Pit BBQ raises up to $30,000 through their PEACE relief mission program.

Review of Tokyo Lobby

Tokyo Lobby is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants. I took a friend of mine there last night and had a great time. The service is always friendly and no matter how busy the place is , it is always a nice, quiet place. I either order a boat with a friend or a combination dinner. I went with the combination dinner. I chose the three item option with New York steak teriyaki, chicken katsu and California rolls. You get edamame and miso soup to start. I love edamame, salted soybeans that I like to call Japanese peanuts. The miso soup is piping hot like it should it. The katsu is one of the best I have ever had and the New York steak teriyaki is always moist and tender. I always leave full and love coming back again and again.

Review of Beach Pit BBQ

All You Can Eat St. Louis Ribs? You had me at the word ALL! I took a few friends last night to Beach Pit BBQ and we all did the Wednesday Night special. The ribs came with slaw and two sides for $15.95. I chose my usual fries as one of the sides. The other side was the delicious blueberry cornbread. It comes nice and warm and is like a blueberry muffin. I could easily eat a whole pan of this! The slaw is really good using a light vinegar based dressing which I love so much more than the typical mayo based. And the ribs were outstanding as the meat just fell off the bone! Not oily or greasy so all you taste is the meat. To get more ribs you just let you server know. The second, third or fourths or more on ribs come out without BBQ sauce but there are three tasty sauces at the table to choose from. They have a mustard based sauce, a medium sauce and a spicy sauce. All three sauces were terrific! I'll be back on Wednesdays in the near future!

Review of PHAT Pizza

This brand new spot won me over with an amazing Chicago deep dish pizza! It's what they do and they take pride in their pie! Call ahead as it takes 30 - 40 minutes to bake your pie. We were not disappointed in our meatlovers pizza. We ordered a small and thank goodness we did. We each had two slices and threw in the towel. The two remaining slices made for an excellent leftover meal the next day with a nice blue moon. But getting back to the pizza - I can describe it as a pizza lasagna. It was piping hot with lots of mozzarella cheese and even more meat. Definitely one of my favorite pizzas.

Johnny Reb's Review

So I finally went to Johnny Reb's last night and man I will be back. I am a big fan of BBQ and love the ambiance here. It's like going to a good friend's house down in the South. I loved the fact that there was Grape Nehi and RC Cola on the menu! Classic old school sodas!
They also have peanuts and you just toss the shells on the floor. Those peanuts are addicting but I wanted to make sure I had room for my dinner which consisted on babyback pork ribs, hot links, fries, bbq pinto beans and cornbread. The cornbread was not as sweet as i was use to but there was plenty of butter and honey and lots of bbq sauce to dip it into! The bbq pinto beans were warm and had a rich flavor. The hot links and yes I stress the plural word LINKs! Most places only give you one link but here there were two and they were spicy! I love spicy and these had just the right amount of kick. The highlight though was the babyback pork ribs. The meat just fell off the bone. There was no need for a knife and fork to cut the ribs apart from one another. The pork was just juicy and that bbq sauce was just perfect.
Great service and even better food will keep Johnny Reb's a place I keep coming back to for great backyard style bbq!
