Buena Vista Street History: Clarabelle's Hand Scooped Ice Cream Parlor, 926 Carthay Circle

Origins of name: The ice cream and soda fountain shop is a tribute to Clarabelle Cow, a cartoon character who debuted in the 1928 short "Plane Crazy" as Mickey Mouse's friend. Her character has largely been a supporting role, and was never as fully developed as some of Mickey's more famous friends, such as Goofy and Donald Duck.
Fictional back story: In a nod to the cartoon cow for whom the shop is named, Clarabelle's promises an "udderly incredible" experience. "Our cones provide a moo-veable feast," an ad for the shop proclaims. "Stop by and try a frozen treat that can't be beat! We guarantee you will leave with a smile that will last all day long! The best ice cream in the Golden State!"
Street address: The 926 address number refers to 1926, the year Walt Disney relocated his burgeoning cartoon studio from its first home on Kingswell Avenue in Los Angeles to a bigger facility on Hyperion Avenue. Disney kept the studio at 2719 Hyperion Ave. open until 1940, at which time it was moved to its present home – 500 S. Buena Vista St. in Burbank.
What it really serves: Ice cream, floats, etc.
