Media Event: Indiana Jones and The Adventure of Archaeology (Part 2 - The Exhibit)

We entered the museum!
I love that the Discovery Science Center has one of these! You can take your photo at the kiosk and send it to your Facebook or Twitter account instantly!
They even have the display from this year's San Diego Comic-Con!
Yes, it even has the live snakes! Snakes? Why did it have to be snakes?
Here is the handheld device to take you through the exhibit!
We all have our handheld devices and are good to go!
Test your device and make sure it is functioning properly!
Before you head into the exhibit, you can try your hand at these pulley chairs.
Or dig through the sand to try to find your own treasure!
Love this scale model!
I even built a pyramid!
The walls of the exhibit tell you which numbers to input on the handheld device. It will then play an audio or video clip to give you more detailed information on the item you are looking at. The very first item to input is an audio greeting from Indy himself, Harrison ford!
Here is the legendary costume!
If you so choose, you can join the treasure hunt. It gives you a quest to find all the fragments of a treasure. There are multiple treasures to choose from and you simply choose which artifact you want to find.
The first set of props is from Raiders of The Lost Ark!
I wonder how much this weighs in sand? The Chachapoyan Fertility Idol is one of my all-time favorite props!
The Ark of the Covenant, which once carried the tables on which the Ten Commandments were written, was thought to contain enough supernatural power to level mountains.
Marion's costume from the bar.
Some props from the bar.
The headpiece of the Staff of Ra.
The poster for Temple of Doom!
Nurhachi's ashes. Nurhachi was the first emperor of the Ming dynasty.
One of the models from the exciting mine car chase sequence.

Another view! Did you know that they recorded sounds from Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland to create some of the sounds of the mine cars?
Mola Ram's headpiece.
Three of the Sankara Stones.
Short Round's costume!
Indy's tux at the beginning of the film.
You have to love Willie Scott's dress!
The Last Crusade!
Only in the leap of the lion's head will prove this worth!
The Grail Diary!
The costume of the beautiful Dr. Elsa Schneider!
The cruciform of The Brotherhood of the Cruciform Sword.
Sir Richard's shield.
The grail tablet and etching.
The Holy Grail and one of the fakes.
Kingdom of The Crytsal Skull.
One of the Crystal Skulls!
Irina Spalko's uniform.
One of the crystal skeleton aliens.

Mutt's motorcycle.
Mutt William's costume.
Once you are done with the movie props, this is where the real treasure awaits! Actual artifacts from the Penn Museum.
Hiram Bingham, the man who discovered Machu Picchu.
The National Geographic magazine that detailed Hiram's discoveries in Peru.
A Greek drinking cup dated around 480 BC.
A Funerary Stela used to indicate the location of a tomb. From Egypt and dated between 1938-1759 BC.
The last section of the exhibition is dedicated to local archaeology discoveries in Southern California. The Discovery Science Center has partnered with the famous Mission San Juan Capistrano. On display are various artifacts including this statue of St. Francis dating from the late 1700s and this silver ciborium, a religious vessel for holding sacramental bread).
The commemorative ticket for the Grand Opening Event!

This is just a small sample of the hundreds of props, artifacts, and conceptual art from the movies and from actual artifacts. This is an amazing exhibit! I hope you get a chance to visit between now and April 21st, 2013! I know that I am going back at least one more time! There is so much to see and to learn about! The exhibit takes roughly 4 hours to get through if you listen to all of the audio clips and watch all of the videos.

Special thanks go out to the entire team at the Discovery Science Center! My friends and I had an absolute blast! I thought the Star Wars Exhibit would be a tough one to beat but the Indy Exhibit is 100 times better!
