Blu-Ray Review: Oliver and Company 25th Anniversary Edition!

One of the first contemporary musical Disney animated films is this animal story loosely based on Oliver Twist.

Video Quality:
The colors on this restoration are nice and bright! I can tell that there is still some blurring from the scrubbing process to remove the film grain but it's not nearly as bad as on The Sword In The Stone blu-ray.

Audio Quality:
The DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround track is the most dynamic of the three releases on the 6th. The voices are clean and the rear channel delivers a great experience for the street sequences of creating an actual environment. The score and all the great music have never sounded better!

Extras:
  • The Making of Oliver & Company (SD, 6 minutes): This all too brief extra deserves a longer behind the scenes look at the movie or at least the music.
  • Classic Animated Shorts (SD, 15 minutes): "Lend a Paw" and "Puss Cafe" are both included here.
  • Disney's Animated Animals (SD, 2 minutes): Another far too short featurette.
  • Publicity (SD, 6 minutes): A couple of the movie trailers, a promo and a TV commercial. I miss when all the trailers were included on Disney releases.
  • Disney Sing-Along Mode (HD): Sing along with the movie with subtitles.

Overall, this is a fun movie filled with great music from some great artists! A solid audio track does not make up for the lackluster video restoration and the less than stellar bonus material. But it still looks better than the DVD release and is a welcome addition to my collection!
