Once Upon A Time was a huge first season hit for ABC! Did the show hit a sophomore slump in the second season?
At the end of Season One, Emma broke the curse, which returned everyone's original memories, but they are not returned to the fairy tale world. Rumplestiltskin/Mr. Gold introduces magic into Storybrooke, the fates of the two worlds become intertwined, and new threats emerge.
Video Quality:
A razor sharp 1080p presentation that we have come to expect from Disney. My only complaint is that the CG effects do not hold up in this HD presentation. Everything else is crystal clear though. Colors are sharp and materials look amazing even with close-ups. I think that this presentation is even better than the Season One blu-ray set.
Audio Quality:
The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track really shines here as well. With a sound track even better than the Season One blu-ray set, the rear channels really bring the show to life. The ambient sound whether it is the streets of Storybrooke or the forests of the fairy tale world, the sound surrounds you. The front channel keeps the dialogue crystal clear.
Bonus Material:
- Six Audio Commentaries:As much as I enjoy audio commentaries, I wish that they had commentaries on all the episodes. They have such a large and diverse cast that I think they can add an interesting addition to the sets. Maybe something for the Season Three set?
- A Fractured Family Tree (HD, 7 minutes): Quickly catches one up on the complexities of the relationships with the characters of this show. Perfect for newbies or those that are overwhelmed by what is going on.
- Deleted Scenes (HD, 11 minutes):Eleven different deleted scenes that you can see why they were cut from the episode.
- Girl Power (HD, 13 minutes): Great to see a segment on the heroines and femme fatales of Once Upon a Time, especially sicne the women are not portrayed as the typical damsel in distress.
- Sincerely, Hook (HD, 5 minutes): An all to brief interview with the Cap'n, actor Colin O'Donoghue.
- Good Morning Storybrooke (HD, 12 minutes): A really funny fake morning show that could have kept on going another 18 minutes! I hope this shows up again on the Season Three blu-ray set!
- Fairest Bloopers of Them All (HD, 3 minutes): A short gag reel.
One of my favorite shows on TV gets a solid blu-ray release that easily tops the first season set. Now I cannot wait for the start of Season Three!
