Craft Time: Mickey Mouse Paper Snowflakes!

Download Mickey Mouse Paper Snowflake Craft Template

What you'll need

  • Template for Mickey Paper Snowflakes
  • Scissors
  • Lightweight white craft paper or plain white printer paper cut into squares (8½- by 8½ inches or larger)
  • Pencil
  • Wax paper, iron, and pressing cloth (optional)
  • Thin ribbon or beading monofilament for hanging the snowflakes

How to make it

  1. Print the template and cut out the half head shapes you want to use. (Note: The smaller two work well if you’re using 8½–inch squares to make snowflakes, while the others are suited to larger squares.)
  2. Step 2
For each snowflake, fold a paper square in half once, and then in half again, so that it resembles a small card with the fold at the top.
  3. Step 3
Next, fold the paper diagonally so that the upper right corner meets the lower left corner, as shown.
  4. Step 4
Fold the paper in half diagonally once again, this time from left to right, and trim the longer triangular bottom off, as shown.
  5. Step 5
Undo the last fold, and trace a Mickey head along one of the side edges, as shown. Cut along the trace line and remove the cutout.
  6. Step 6
Snip off the upper tip of the paper, and then cut a deep V-shaped notch in the bottom of the paper, as shown.
  7. Step 7
Cut random smaller notches in the paper edges around the mouse head. Then, unfold the paper to reveal your Mickey snowflake. Once your child gets the hang of it, encourage him or her to experiment with new designs, perhaps even cutting two or more Mickey heads in one snowflake.
  8. If you want to flatten the finished snowflakes, place them between sheets of wax paper. Set the ensemble on one half of a pressing cloth and then fold the other half over the top of the wax paper. Lightly press the top of the cloth with an iron set on low heat (adults only). Then carefully peel the wax paper from the snowflakes.
  9. Thread a piece of thin ribbon or monofilament through the top of each snowflake, and knot the ends together to create a loop for hanging it.
