Here is my last vehicle review for 2017 and it is the 2018 Toyota C-HR. First off this vehicle is a head turner! Take a look at it's futuristic good looks! Let's find out if the inside matches the outside!
The seats are sporty and very comfortable bucket seats. They are also heated which could come in handy in certain parts of the country.
The cockpit, while nicely laid out, is missing not only navigation but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Strange and sad to see these missing from such a futuristic looking vehicle.
The rear door handles are elevated near the roofline for a cool look but it is difficult for kids to reach. Also the rear windows are small and high up that kids won't be able to see out them.
It was time to head out for a late night donut run to one of my favorite 24 hour donut shops, The Donuttery in Huntington Beach. Starting with the upper left you have a pumpkin spice donut, moving to the upper right you have a nutella stuffed malasada, the bottom right is a peanut butter and jelly filled donut and the last one is a red velvet donut topped with cream cheese! All are amazing and donuts are constantly being made all day and night!
The next day it is off to Northgate Market in Downey. This is one of the largest Northgate Market stores in Southern California and their food court is the Disneyland of Mexican food!
You simply help yourself to the freshly made tamales! So many amazing food options here it will be hard to decide what you want to eat! The staff in the food court is super helpful and happy to answer any question you may have!
Heading back to the vehicle at night so the welcome lights are a welcomed sight.
The next evening it was off to Disneyland for a quick visit to take in the Holiday lights. Holiday Time in The Disneyland Resort is one of my most favorite times of the year. I love Christmas and love all the decorations and lights.
A look at the Carthay Circle Theatre with it's simple, yet elegant Christmas wreath.
I take a similar photo from here every Holiday Season. This is from the Disneyland Fire House at Town Square. Sad to see Holiday Time come to an end but lots to look forward to in 2018 at The Disneyland Resort!
Looking in my rearview monitor in the rearview mirror. While it was cool to see this, the small screen was tough to use and I wish that it was on the entertainment screen that most other vehicles utilize.
Amble trunk space to load up more of my Christmas gift deliveries.
Time for mimosas for Christmas Eve brunch. A refreshing way to start the meal with some great friends. This was at Wokcano at the Main Place Mall in Santa Ana where they recently went to an all you can eat format.
The main course was sushi! The quality of the sashimi was really good and thankfully it was all you can eat too!
Sometimes the presentation is almost too pretty to eat. The key word being almost. A fantastic meal and fantastic service means I will return again and with more friends with me.
The 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine creates just 144 horsepower and creates and underpowered situation. Acceleration is disappointing but it seems that this vehicle was geared towards those that live in the city anyways so street driving and acceleration is not an issue. Cabin noise is also an issue as pretty much everything is amplified in the cabin from wind noise to engine noise.
But on the plus side handling is fantastic. Quick turns are handled nicely and there is excellent control. Fuel economy is also competitive at 27 MPG in the city, 31 MPG on the highway and 29 MPG combined. There are also a ton of safety features that Toyota is known for including lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking that can detect both other vehicles and even pedestrians. There is adaptive cruise control, ten air bags, dual-zone automatic climate control, bluetooth, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry and push button start, blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert.
The Toyota C-HR seems like it was going to be part of the Scion line-up before that was cancelled and while it's looks appeal to younger buyers the vehicle doesn't have some of the tech that appeals to them and is standard on other competing vehicles. Add to it an underpowered engine and the vehicle has a lot of work ahead of it. But for those that will only use it in urban areas then this may be perfect for you.
